COUNCIL OF ELDERS MEETING

Wednesday, December 5 9:00 – 5:30

MORNING

Chairman’s comments and approval of the minutes of the previous meetings – R. Holladay ¼ Hour

The Council must approve all previous minutes in order for them to become the official minutes of UCGIA. Gerald Seelig prepares the minutes as secretary to the Council.

Old business – Roy Holladay ½ Hour

After a series of Council meetings conclude, there are business assignments and duties given to various Council members. They are asked to give a report on the progress of the responsibility they were given.

With proper planning some of the routine business of the Council can be handled between face-to-face sessions – freeing up more time.

President’s comments – Les McCullough ½ Hour

At every face-to-face meeting, the President gives an overall update on the work and the Church.

Media & Communications Services update – Peter Eddington 2 Hours

Peter will give an overview of how well we are doing in reaching our media goals.

Peter will discuss the impact of this year’s Feast video and have preliminary discussion on the theme of the 2002 video.

TV is part of our media mix. What are the possibilities for beginning to produce a ½-hour TV program?

Peter will review the possibilities of radio programming in the Caribbean area.

United will continue the Bible Reading Program that was started by CGCF. Peter will give an update on the progress of the program.

 

 

AFTERNOON

Ministerial Services update – Richard Pinelli

Ministerial Services has been working on the idea of providing certificates for the various ceremonies that the Church performs. The ministry has been asked to give their input on proposed certificates. Richard will give the Council an update.

Richard will target the Operation Plan and how well we are meeting our goals in relationship to the budget.

A task force headed by Greg Sargent has prepared a member assistance manual. Dave Evans will answer any questions and solicit input with the desire that the manual be approved for use by the ministry.

Budget reports – Tom Kirkpatrick 1 Hour

Tom will give a report on the financial state of the Church covering the first five months of the year.

A review of some aspects of our insurance coverage.

 

 

Thursday, December 6 9:00 – 5:30

MORNING

GCE planning – Roy Holladay, Clyde Kilough and Charles Melear 1 Hour

Discussion of a possible theme for the 2002 GCE meetings. A report on the location and details of the meeting facility for 2002.

Can we afford to bring all the international employed ministry into Cincinnati for the GCE conference and international meetings?

Since the present plans are to have all elders attend the 2003 GCE, there is the need to secure the facilities and begin planning the agenda for that meeting.

Education Committee – Don Ward 1 Hour

After receiving input from Ministerial Services, the Committee will continue the discussion of the possibility of having a Pastoral Committee to interface with Ministerial Services.

Update on work in Asia – Aaron Dean ½ Hour

Aaron Dean was in Asia for the Feast of Tabernacles this year. He will give an update on the activities and prospects in that area.

 

AFTERNOON

Update on changes in French Association – Joel Meeker ¼ Hour

Since our last meetings, the French Association has reorganized. Joel Meeker was asked to be the chairman of the French Association. Joel will give an update on the changes.

Executive session - Roy Holladay 3 Hours

The ordination forms for the Remnant ministry will be discussed as well as a number of credentialings – many pertaining to CGCF.

Friday, December 7 9:00 – 4:30

MORNING

Honoring those who have 40 years service – Dick Thompson ½ Hour

Dick will discuss suggestions on how to honor employees who have served the Church for 40 years.

Committees of the Council – Roy Holladay ¼ Hour

Finalize committee assignments

Doctrinal update – Leon Walker 1 Hour

Update the Council on the doctrinal projects the committee is overseeing and where to go from here.

Strategic Planning & Finance Committee – Aaron Dean 1 Hour

The Council has the responsibility of recommending the budget to be approved by the GCE. The administration will put forward the budget to the Council at the February meeting. This will give the Council an opportunity to review the current budget and make recommendations to the administration for next year’s budget.

The Council will discuss the travel budget for all major areas of the Church. This will be a part of the budget process discussion.

AFTERNOON

Internet study update – Victor Kubik and Dan Deininger 2 Hours

A task force headed by Dan Deininger has been researching our use of the Internet. The task force will report to the Council on its findings. How can we most effectively use the Internet in doing the work?

TV special – Victor Kubik ½ Hour

Victor will discuss the idea put forward by the president on a possible TV special in the future.

 

Monday, December 10 9:00 – 5:00

The Council will interview the five nominees for the job of president. One-and-a-half hours have been set aside for each candidate to make a presentation and answer questions from the Council.

Tuesday, December 11 9:00 – 5:00

Homosexuality—Its causes and cures and the role of the Church and ministry in

providing help – Denny Luker, Melvin Rhodes, and Dr. Joseph Nicolosi 3 Hours

The purpose of this presentation is to update the Council on scientific research regarding the causes of homosexuality and the therapy that is available for recovery. Part of United's Focused Education Program includes providing information and support for those who seek our help in overcoming this problem. We will show how the Church and ministry can provide spiritual and emotional support to aid someone seeking recovery from homosexuality.

The main part of this presentation will be given by Dr. Joseph Nicolosi, a professional counselor and leading authority on the subject. He is co-founder and executive director of NARTH (National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality) with its offices in Southern California. Dr. Nicolosi will make clear the causes of homosexuality and explain his success in helping homosexuals recover. He is author of a book titled, "Reparative Therapy of Male Homosexuality."

Expectations for the president – Gary Antion

A new president will want to know the will of the Council. It is crucial to his success that the expectations of his term be enumerated clearly and promptly. It takes time to consider, plan and prepare for a productive administration.

Clearly define the involvement of the president and the Council in the international areas.

How the international areas are administrated – Roy Holladay 1 Hour

Finish the discussion of the Council on this topic.

Amendments – Roy Holladay and Gerald Seelig ¾ Hour

The Council will review the amendments that will be submitted to the GCE for 2002.

Council oversight and evaluation

The Council has the responsibility of evaluating the success of programs enumerated in the Operation Plan. How should the Council exercise this oversight responsibility?
